Mob attacks Pastor and Church Members for Singing Christmas CarolsA pastor and group of church members were attacked by some unidentified mob on Saturday, December 13 for singing Christmas carols in the Indian City of Hyderabad. The mob accused that the pastor and 15 church members of trying to convert others to Christianity and violently attacked the group. In this regard, Pastor Bhim Nayak and four others were injured in the attack. The pastor remains in critical condition after being beaten unconscious and he was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
John Dayal of the Indian Government’s National Integration Council said that Hindu extremists are becoming increasingly influential in India, which threatens the safety of Christians. "There has been a sharp rise in hate campaigns against Christians by political organizations. This threat of purging Christians from villages extends from Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh to now Uttar Pradesh, and to the borders of the national capital of New Delhi,” Dayal said.
Police registered a complaint and investigation is going on. According to the police, the victim Nayak, a resident of Singareni colony in Saidabad and native of Nalgonda district, was going alone from his residence towards Vaishalinagar, Champapet by walk during the night. Police believe that attackers were non-locals who came to attend a function in the locality.
The carol team said when they were moving through Vaishalinagar at midnight around 15 people attacked and beaten them. After the assault, the gang left from the area. “We took the injured to a hospital and approached the police,” said a member of the carol team.
