James Hudson Taylor was born in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England on 21st May, 1832, the son of a pharmacist and Methodist lay preacher James Taylor and his wife, Amelia Hudson. After a brief period of teenage skepticism, he came to Christ by reading a Christian tract in his father's apothecary store.
